The Acropolis Museum celebrates the August Full Moon
August 9, 2022
The Athens Metro is second in the world for pickpocket complaints.
August 12, 2022This year's August full moon falls on the 12th of the month, Friday. A very convenient day to enjoy this beautiful wonder of nature without the stress of the next day's work.
So climb the rooftops and hills of the city or hit the beaches to enjoy the August full moon. We give some ideas, you can find your very personal corners for this unique view.
Acropolis Museum
The Acropolis museum will celebrate this year's full moon with the Air Force band. Songs about the moon and beyond such as "I'll drink the moon tonight", "Let's take a walk on the moon", "Fly my to the moon", "I could have dance all night" and "If you remember in my dream" they will keep us company at an open event in the courtyard of the museum. The concert will start at nine in the evening with free entry while the museum will remain open until midnight with also free entry from 9 pm.
The restaurant on the second floor will be open during the same hours for a melodic dinner under the moonlight. The band is directed by Episminagos Alexandros Litsardopoulos while the songs are performed by Elena Orphanidis and Angelos Musicakas.
Anafiotika
The most clichéd place in Athens to see the full moon is still some of the favourite spots. One can appreciate its beauty from many angles, but it is hard not to be impressed by how picturesque this view truly seems when you're standing at Anafiotika and looking out over Greece’s capital city! First of all, you will be right under the Holy Rock and you will have a view of the city, its hills and Kallimarmaro. It is convenient because it is located in the centre of Athens, which means that once you have had enough of looking at the moon, in two steps you are close to taverns and bars to continue your beautiful evening.

Stavros Niarchos Park
A wonderful suggestion is to visit the Park of the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Foundation. Whether you sit in the cafe next to the canal, or choose a bench in the garden, it is certain that you will enjoy the full moon. Note that on Friday 12/8, at 21:00 there is a screening of a film at Xefoto entitled "Underwater", so take a blanket to lay on while don't forget that every day there is the show "Choreographed Fountains" that on Friday will dance under sounds of classical music. From Friday to Sunday the park remains open until 02:00.
Sounio
Take beers and snacks with you and set GPS for Sounio. Here away from the hustle and bustle and lights of the city you can enjoy the full moon in much more peace and in all its glory. Leave the car in the parking lot of the archaeological site and head to the left, i.e. opposite the alley that leads to the temple. Walk to Accra Sounio, pick your rock and sit back bathed in the light of the August full moon surrounded by urban legends and superstitions.
