On Friday, August 12, the Acropolis museum will celebrate the August Full Moon, with Greek songs about the moon, film music and well-known foreign tunes from the historical band of the Air Force Band, in its forecourt at 9 pm.
On this day, the Museum will remain open until midnight and entry will be free from 9pm, giving visitors the opportunity to tour the exhibition spaces and enjoy the view of the Sacred Rock under the moonlight of the Attic night sky. The restaurant on the second floor will be open during the same hours (phone reservations 210 9000915).
The Air Force Band consists of officers and non-commissioned officers, who are also musicians of high professional training who have studied at various conservatories of the country and have been enlisted in the Air Force after examinations. The Band participates in international festivals abroad and leads the parade of expatriate Greeks that takes place on New York's 5th Avenue on the occasion of the March 25th celebration. The Acropolis Museum
Located in the historic area of Makryianni, the Museum stands about 300 meters southeast of the Parthenon. Its entrance is adjacent to the start of Dionysiou Areopagitou pedestrian walkway, which links it to the Acropolis and other key archeological sites in Athens. The top floor of the Museum, the Parthenon Gallery, offers a panoramic view of the Acropolis and modern Athens.
