A glamour of authenticity and simplicity with the aroma of jasmine, vines and bougainvillaea, envelops a corner of Athens that nothing resembles the cement that surrounds it.
A dusty story…
Which starts in the middle of the 19th century. It was then that King Otto, anticipating the rebuilding of the palaces (today's Parliament), brought the famous craftsmen to Athens from Santorini and Anafi. These people, wanting to be housed somewhere with their families, chose a small corner to the northeast of the Acropolis rock, since, as it is called, it reminded them of their place. Thus, a Lilliputian quarter was built simply and quietly in the centre of the city with an Aegean flavour and Cycladic architecture. Anafiotika. White houses, narrow alleys, bougainvillaea and vines compose a painting under the sacred rock that withstands a city drowned in cement.
