Once home to two districts, the Inner and Outer Kerameikos, this area served as Athens' first public cemetery and housed the Dipylon Gate, the primary entrance to the ancient city. Spanning approximately 40 acres, Kerameikos was uncovered from layers of earth up to 9 meters deep, revealing a treasure trove of artifacts and monuments. On the 1st of September the opening hours apply, due to a gradual reduction in the length of the day, as follows:

- 1st to 15th October 08:00 - 18:30-Last entrance to the Site at 18:00 and
- 16th to 31st October 08:00 - 18:00-Last entrance to the Site at 17:30
The Kerameikos Archaeological Museum will not be open daily during the hours 12.00 - 17.00
The archaeological site of Kerameikos is accessible for the most part to visitors with reduced mobility and wheelchair users [assistance by a companion is recommended], via the main entrance at 148 Ermou str.
The archaeological museum of Kerameikos is fully accessible to visitors with reduced mobility and wheelchair users. A WC for the physically challenged is also provided.
At the site information desk, at the entrance, tactile site plans and brochures in Braille in Greek and English are available for visually impaired visitors.
